A tiled Victorian gin palace on Bethnal Green Road, restored to its full pomp — and a working oyster bar at the back.
The Well & Bucket has stood here since 1850. The mosaic ceiling, the etched glass, the marble counter — they belonged to a different London and somehow survived ours. Today the bar pours seasonal cocktails alongside half-shells from English coasts.
Come early for oysters and a Manhattan. Come late for whisky and the long, slow last hour.
